In autograft surgery follicar units
that produce hair are transferred from the occipital zone (nape)
or doner site to the area of the scalp or recipient site that
the patient wants to thicken.
Grafted healthy hair will
immediately grow as if it was in his original zone. The
transplant of hair offers today excellent and lasting results.
The scars are invisible both on the nape and in the graft area.
It is possible to repeat hair graft more times according to
needs.
Anesthesia
and Hospitalization
The patient can undergo the operation under local anesthesia and
in this case he will be back home in the evening.
Sedation is
often given since the duration of the transplant oscillates
between 4 and 6 hours.
Convalescence
No medication is applied. The first day after
the transplant a shampoo is applied to quickly restore the
normal scalp hygiene.
The healing time is very rapid. In the
days following the operation, due to the very small dimensions
of the holes in which the grafts have been inserted, on the
surface of the scalp there will form very small barely visible
crusts that will fall spontaneously in 7-10 days.
The swelling
is subjective: the patient can sometimes suffer swelling for 24
hours in
the eyelid zone, at times in the forehead zone and other times
in the cheek zone. However the swelling is usually reabsorbed in
4 days.
The patient can organize then his/her professional
appointments after a convalescence period of 4 days. The
stitches on the nape, from which the hair has been taken, are
reabsorbable, therefore it is not necessary to remove them
because they will soon desappear.
It will take at least 3 months
to see the hair on the surface of the head and
a total of 6 months to see the hair of the correct thickness.
